Skeleton of My Past, Foundation of My Future: Grave (2024)
glitter, paint pen, sewing, handwritten notes, canvas, felt, on screen-printed fabric
64” x 22”
Being someone who feels an intense connection between emotions and the physical human form, and always having had a love for anatomy, I knew I wanted to create a work that combined all of these elements into an amalgamation of mediums that mimic the complexity of life. The bones of the human skeleton stay the same, yet constantly renew themselves throughout our lives, therefore we have the same skeleton, yet it is continually evolving. This idea is similar to the growth we have as humans; changing over time, yet, we are still the people we have been, just in different stages of life. The bright pink, glittery, and hyper-feminized elements come from my experience with this phenomenon. Growing up and not feeling “girl” enough to now embrace the femininity I have through elements that are seen as being so stereotypically feminine is simply another experience I will have with the bones that support the skin I exist in.
